My life during these pandemic days feels like an episode of a home improvement television show. You know the scene where the professional flippers go through the house and discover that there is nothing supporting the roof or the entire 2nd floor other than a post that isn’t attached to anything, let alone load-bearing? Bring on the structural engineers, open your pocketbooks, and build that temporary wall to hold it all in place until proper load bearing beams can be installed. All problems solved within the span of an hour-long show with tons of commercials. That was easy.

If only it were. C’mon, corona. Hurry up and be done already. What’s the holdup?

Does it feel like everything is taking longer to accomplish these days? Does it feel like even the smallest of tasks are taking up far too much of your energy? You are not alone. Pandemic fatigue and burnout are real. Besides boundary setting, structure and giving ourselves and others extra doses of grace, one thing we can do to ease the fatigue is to share the burden. Bear one another’s burdens…sound familiar? (See Galatians 6:2) Hold up!

What supports do you have in place? What’s holding you up? Who are your people? God has given us the gift of presence. Lean on those supports. Lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Lean on Jesus, who bears the ultimate load of our burdens through cross beams. Thanks be to God.
